In the case of a hospital, for example, a number of AHJs may exist. The accreditation body is a very important AHJ, as the hospital has to maintain accreditation to operate. Also, there is a large life safety concern, so the local fire marshal is charged with approving life safety systems and insuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. There will also be an insurance company that may have specific requirements, making them an AHJ also, since the hospital probably can't function without insurance.
