Automatic Sprinkler Inspection, Testing & Maintenance

Alarm Check and Riser Check Valves

Alarm and riser check valves on wet-pipe sprinkler systems must be externally inspected at least monthly.
The water supply gauges should register the appropriate pressure.
External trim valves should be checked to assure they are in the appropriate position.
The inspection should also detect any leakage from the alarm check valve, retard chamber, and trim piping. Obvious damage to the valve should be noted, as should excessive corrosion.
The interior of the valve must be inspected at five year intervals.  This will necessitate removal of the cover plate of the alarm or riser check valve, examining the gasket, seat and hinge pin assembly inside the valve.
