Fire Behavior- Introduction to Fire Suppression

Physical separation of the flame occurs every time someone blows out a candle. The force of the air stream you aim at the flame blows the flame away from the wick of the candle.

An oil well fire might be extinguished using the same principle. An explosive charge is often used to "blow" the flame from the oil gusher, causing the flame to leave the oil well.
