Fire Behavior- Introduction to Fire Suppression

For the most part today, dry chemicals we use are modified from their original form. The newer materials that result are known as "all-purpose" agents and work by a combination of chemical interaction and by coating the burning material. This coating reduces the ability of the fire to get air to burn and also reduces the material's ability to accept heat radiated from another source. If the burning material can't receive radiant waves from adjacent materials, the burning material can't radiate energy to any other sources.
