Disconnects

Section 600.6

Section 600.6 addresses disconnects for signs, providing requirements that are slightly different than for other types of equipment. Like other equipment, signs must have some way to disconnect them from their power source.

The general requirement is for a disconnect that opens only the conductors supplying a sign. As a general rule, that disconnect should also be within sight of the sign, but that's not precisely the NEC requirement.

Sometimes there is a disconnect in or on the sign, but it can also be out of sight from the sign if it’s within sight from the controller. If it's in sight of the controller and it's lockable in the off position, then another one is not required to be within sight of the sign.
