Special Equipment

Article 695, Fire Pumps

Scope

Section 695.1

Section 695.1 says Article 695 covers electric power sources and interconnecting circuits as well as switching and control equipment dedicated to fire pump drivers. It goes on to say that the article does not cover the performance, maintenance and acceptance testing of the fire pump system and the internal wiring of the components of the system. Those would be covered either by NFPA 20 or by the listing and labeling instructions for the equipment.

Article 695 also does not cover the pressure maintenance pumps (the jockey or make up pumps). Although Article 695 does require that there must be enough power for such auxiliary pumps, it doesn't address the wiring of those pumps. The ordinary requirements of Article 430 apply.
