Article 600, Electric Signs and Outline Lighting

Scope

Article 600: Electric Signs and Outline Lighting

Article 600 covers signs, including "the installation of conductors, equipment, and field wiring for electrical signs and outline lighting, regardless of voltage."

All installations and equipment using neon tubing – such as signs, decorative elements, skeleton tubing or art forms – are also covered by Article 600. In fact, this is the only place in the NEC with anything specific about neon tubing.

Definitions specific to this article are included.

For example, Section 600.2 defines electric discharge lighting as including neon tubing. Elsewhere in the Code, discharge lighting includes primarily fluorescent and high-intensity discharge types.
