Section 600.5 requires that every commercial building and commercial occupancy with ordinary access to pedestrians must be provided with an outlet dedicated for sign use.
It is not required to be an individual branch circuit, but it must be an outlet that that has no other equipment (other than signs) on it. It must be rated at least 20 amps. It must be furnished at every pedestrian entrance. This does not include some entrances used exclusively by employees such as entrances from service corridors.
For very large signs, a 20-amp circuit would not be adequate, so multiple circuits that are adequate for the load is required. for very large signs, the branch circuit rating limits in Section 600.5(B) would require a feeder or multiple branch circuits to be run to the sign.
