The National Electrical Code® (NEC) is a uniform standard for the safe installation of electrical wiring and equipment in the United States. It is published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) as part of the National Fire Code series and is also known as NFPA 70.
The NEC provides requirements for safe electrical installations.
Although the NEC is not itself a law, it is often adopted as an official standard by state or local laws in the United States that require electrical installations to follow its requirements. It is also used in some jurisdictions outside the U.S.
