Introduction to the NEC

Introduction

Scope

Section 90.2

Section 90.2 addresses the scope of the NEC, that is, what it does and does not cover.

Essentially the NEC covers buildings that are intended for public and private premises. It is intended to cover places where the public or ordinary people who are not specifically qualified in electrical installations would be working.

Although the NEC is not intended to cover these specific uses, it is sometimes used in railroads(except railcars and moving rolling stock), ships, mines(only above ground installations) and other specialized installations.
