General Requirements in the NEC

Mechanical Execution of Work

Mechanical Execution of Work

The primary requirement of Section 110.12 is straightforward but very subjective, simply requiring that the installation be done in a "neat and workmanlike manner." Of course, "neat and workmanlike manner" is not a well-defined term and is subject to interpretation, judgment and opinion.

The informational note that follows 110.12 refers to ANSI/NECA 1, Standard Practices for Good Workmanship in Electrical Contracting, as an accepted industry practice. However, while this is certainly a useful standard, following this standard is not required under the NEC, and even this standard still leaves some room for judgment and opinion.
