Section 408.4 is similar, also requiring all switchboards and panelboards to have all their circuit devices marked to clearly indicate what circuit they control.
Simply identifying circuits as supplying receptacles or lights is not permitted. Disconnects must be identified specifically and in a way that distinguishes every circuit uniquely and does not use any conditions of transient occupancy.
For example, the marking could describe lights in a conference room or an office by a room number. Describing the circuit by giving a person's name is neither permitted nor adequate, because that person's occupancy of the space would be considered transient.
This section also requires that a switchboard or panelboard be marked to indicate its source of power.
