Power Supplies

Case Study

As you drive down the tree-lined lane to your company, you can't help but feel pride at working for the company the Chamber of Commerce calls its "jewel" of local tourism. The company has made piano keyboards for years. They have also developed similar facilities in three other areas, and all can produce the same high quality keyboards. Many of the originals are on display in the company museum, still operated by the founding family. It's 8 a.m., and there's already a line by the museum entrance.

For some time, management has talked about installing a new fire alarm and security system. Before you left yesterday, your manager asked if you would head up the project. It's an important assignment that will require coordination with the company's multi-million dollar expansion. Your first step is to issue some very basic specifications for the new system. As you get more involved, you'll need to expand your list. But for now, you need to think about how the system will be designed and powered.
