Battery Calculations

Batteries, when used for standby power, must be properly sized. The sizing information is required early as it becomes a part of the system specifications. The fire alarm system in this example is a simple one with few extra appliances or devices.

Sample Battery Calculation Worksheet

If this system is a proprietary signaling system, the batteries will be required to power the system for a period of 24 hours. Therefore, the standby current must be multiplied by 24 hours to calculate the battery size in amp-hours for the standby conditionstandby condition
24 hours x 0.24 amps = 5.76 amp-hours.
