Power Supplies

The requirements for electrical power supplies are found in NFPA 70, the National Electrical Code® (NEC®), in a number of different areas. The section listing the power supply requirements depends on the equipment being powered. Article 760 contains specific requirements for fire alarm power supplies, but there are also other articles in the NEC, Chapters 1 through 4 that will apply.

The National Fire Alarm Code, has specific requirementsKeep in mind that the purpose of the NEC is to keep everything safe. The NEC is a safety document first, and the requirements all consider safe installation. for the power supplies for a fire alarm system, but NFPA 72 doesn’t repeat the requirements of the NEC. Rather, the NEC is listed as a reference in the National Fire Alarm Code.

Obviously, this photo isn't what NFPA 72 intends when it discusses a "reliable" power supply.  It is tough to define reliability, but you know it when you see it.
