Helpful Hint

The safety barrier shown here is an example of the associated apparatus used in an intrinsically safe circuit to limit the available energy in the circuit. The barrier includes elements to limit both current and voltage on the load side of the device. These elements are supplemented by additional redundant elements that serve as back-ups to ensure the reliability of the device. A barrier of this sort must be approved for the specific materials because different materials can be ignited by different amounts of energy.
