Division 2 Areas

Like Division 1 areas, Division 2 areas are also separately defined for each Class of hazardous area. Division 2 areas are those locations where ignitable products or mixtures are not likely to be present under normal conditions but where accidents, leaks, or some failure or other abnormal condition may release ignitable materials. Abnormal conditions may include the failure of a ventilation system where the system is relied on to keep an ignitable mixture from forming. The areas immediately adjacentareas immediately adjacent
Since a Division 1 area is an area where ignitable products or mixtures are likely to be present frequently; gases, vapors, or dusts, unless effectively cut off by a physical barrier, may easily migrate from the Division 1 area to the nearby areas . See the diagram on the previous page for an example of a Division 1 area that is surrounded by a Division 2 area. The diagram on this page has only Division 2 areas because the liquid transfer is done in a closed system. to most Division 1 areas are Division 2 areas.
