Supervisory Initiating Devices

Sprinkler Supervision

Deluge and Preaction Systems

Deluge Deluge
A deluge sprinkler system is a system that has all open sprinkler heads. The system is actuated by a supplemental fire detection system and water discharges from all the sprinkler heads simultaneously. and preaction preaction
A preaction sprinkler system is simply a deluge sprinkler system with all closed sprinkler heads. A supplemental fire detection system actuates, opens the preaction (deluge) valve and allows water to fill the sprinkler piping. Water is discharged from the system as each individual sprinkler head is heated to its operating temperature. sprinkler systems are actuated by a separate fire detection system. The detection system may be electrically, pneumatically, or hydraulically operated. The fire alarm system is often used to monitor the actuation system. The integrity of the piping in a preaction sprinkler system is monitored by maintaining a very low air pressure in the system. Loss of this air pressure initiates a supervisory signal that indicates that piping is broken or open for some other reason.
