Supervisory Initiating Devices

Diesel Fire Pumps

Supervisory signals from a diesel fire pump include pump running, fire pump controller in other than the "automatic" position, and problems with the diesel driver. The fire pump controller monitors critical functions of the diesel driver including low oil pressure, high engine temperature, loss of battery charge, and failure to start. In many cases the engine trouble indicators are combined as one supervisory signal. Also, the "automatic" position of the controller switch is monitored.

On receipt of a signal from any of these devices, someone is dispatched to the pump where the pump controller will display the exact nature of the trouble.  Many diesel fire pumps also come with a remote annunciator of its own; this remote panel has nothing to do with the fire alarm system.
