Supervisory Initiating Devices

Helpful Hint

Virtually anything can be monitored by the fire alarm system. This includes security features, processes, and building controls. The only requirement is that the supplementary functions cannot interfere with the operation of the system as a fire alarm system. Current building technology trends are to integrate building control functions into a single building management system. The photo shows a fire department lock box installed to facilitate access into a building during an emergency. The box contains keys to the building. The lock box is opened by a special key that is available only to the fire department. The box is equipped with a supervisory switch that actuates anytime the box is opened.
