Special Occupancies

Special Requirements for Other Occupancies

Mobile Homes, Recreational Vehicles and Park Trailers

Articles 550, 551, & 552

Articles 550 through 552 address mobile homes, manufactured homes, recreational vehicles and park trailers.

These requirements primarily address mobile home parks, recreational vehicle parks and places where park trailers are likely to be installed. Wiring of the mobile homes or vehicles themselves is typically addressed by the jurisdiction that oversees construction at the factory.

The NEC does address certain aspects of internal wiring, but the wiring of mobile homes, manufactured homes, recreational vehicles and park trailers is typically inspected and under the jurisdiction of agencies other than the typical local authority having jurisdiction, who uses the NEC primarily to inspect the sites for mobile homes, recreational vehicles, and park trailers. Local jurisdictions are mostly responsible to review the layout and the installation of the distribution system for power to the sites.
