Section 310.15

Section 310.15 is the primary section for selection of conductors based on their ampacity. This section is the starting point for determining ampacity even if the allowable ampacity tables are not used.

A number of other issues are addressed by Article 310, including:

the appropriate selection of a conductor based on whether it will be used in a dry, damp or wet location, covered in Subsections 310.10(A), (B) and (C), the characteristics of various types of conductor insulation, covered in Section 310.104, minimum sizes of conductors, covered in Section 310.106 and provisions for installing conductors in parallel, covered in Section 310.10(H).
