Auxiliary Fire Alarm Systems

Introduction

Auxiliary Station Systems

The facility in downtown Columbia was vacant and shutdown for the long holiday weekend. A small fire broke out in a closet that was used for janitorial storage. Evidently, the cleaning crew oiled some wooden furniture and threw the rags in the closet in a plastic trash can.

The sprinkler system in the building was extended into the closet, and a sprinkler went off and suppressed the fire. The water flow signal went to the fire alarm control unit and activated the master fire alarm box on the pedestal outside of the building.

The signal was transmitted over the municipal fire alarm circuits, and the fire department alarm office received the signal from coded fire alarm box. They responded, and found the fire suppressed. They cleaned up the best they could and called the owner.

The alarm superintendent was called, and the box was reset.
