Load Calculations

Branch Circuit Load Calculations

Section 220.14

Section 220.14

Section 220.14 is used for loads that are either not included in the table of specified occupancies or that are not treated as general lighting loads.

This section includes a long list of requirements that are based on the rating of the specific appliance or other type of load. In some cases there will be a specific requirement based on some allowances or based on area. For example, electric cooking appliances and electric dryers in dwelling units are assigned load values in Part III.

In some cases, values are assigned to certain types of loads such as the general-use receptacle outlets covered by Subsection 220.14(I) that are calculated at 180 VA per outlet. In other cases, the number of receptacles may not be known. In situations like that, Subsection 220.14(K) can be used.
