Equipment Identification

Approval Required

According to Section 110.2 of the NEC:
"The conductors and equipment required or permitted by this code shall be acceptable only if approved Approved is defined in Article 100 as "Acceptable to the authority having jusridiction."."

Some equipment is available as listed product, and may be required to be listed Listed is defined in Article 100 as "Equipment, materials, or services included in a list published by an organization that is acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction and concerned with evaluation of products or services, that maintains periodic inspection of production of listed equipment or materials or periodic evaluation of services, and whose listing states that the equipment, material, or services either meets appropriate designated standards or has been tested and found suitable for a specified purpose.", but other equipment is not listed and may only be identified Identified is defined in Article 100 as "Recognizable as suitable for the specific purpose, function, use, environment, application, and so forth, where described in a particular Code requirement." for the use.

Some equipment, such as support materials, straps, nails, and screws are neither identified nor listed but must still be acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction.
