Remote Station and Protected Premises Fire Alarm Systems
Introduction
Building Automation and Control
A common term used for this arrangement is BACnet - Building Automation and Control network. This is a network installed in the building into which any items, such as building heat, lights, elevator control, humidity control, access and just about anything that manages or needs to monitored, can be connected. The protected premises fire alarm system can also be interfaced into the BACnet, as long as the "gateways" into the network are listed and proper for fire.
In many cases, the interface of the fire alarm system into the BACnet with other items, such as elevator control or HVAC, makes it easier for the fire alarm system to access and activate these in a time of emergency.
