Remote Station and Protected Premises Fire Alarm Systems

Protected Premises

Definitions

The protected premises fire alarm system is defined as "a fire alarm system located at the protected premises".  Over time, this definition has been interpreted a number of ways.  There are other definitions that further define a fire alarm system installed, for specific purpose, in a protected premises.

These are:
Building Fire Alarm SystemDefined, this is a protected premises fire alarm system that includes a number of items, such as manual and/or automatic initiation, combination or interfaced systems, and the activation of fire safety functions. The intent of the system is to notify occupants, emergency responders, or both. Dedicated Function Fire Alarm SystemThis is a system installed for specific purposes, where a building fire alarm system isn't required. An example of this is the installation of sprinkler system waterflow monitoring, where the intent is to transmit a signal upon sprinkler activation, but occupant notification is not needed or required. Releasing Fire Alarm SystemThis is a control panel and system that is listed for releasing a suppression agent though the sprinkler or suppression system. An example is the control panel that is used to monitor water flow and control valves associated with sprinkler systems in the building.
