Fire Alarm Plans and Code Requirements

Summary

Codes and Standards

Different jurisdictions maintain different standards for the installation of fire protection equipment, including fire alarm systems. The basic requirements for fire alarm systems are occupancy-based, and typically found in a published building or fire code. That document may well reference another document, such as the National Fire Alarm Code, or a local requirement.

Understanding how to maneuver through the world of codes and standards is critical in determining the requirements for the design and installation of fire alarm systems.
Codes and standards are often referenced by one another, and work in unison to list and clarify requirements.
