Fire Alarm Plans and Code Requirements

Construction Elements

Case Study

Your firm is going to bid a fire alarm system installation in a new convention center, attached to a five-star hotel. The building will be used for concerts, trade shows and similar large group gatherings, and can be sub-divided into a number of smaller areas through the use of folding wall partitions.

The local fire marshal is requiring the installation of a “code-compliant” fire alarm system throughout the entire convention center.

Your first review of the plans indicates that the building is constructed of tilt-up concrete and insulated metal panel walls, with a steel deck roof, supported by steel bar joist and beams, on steel columns.
