NEC Requirements

Non-Power-Limited

Wiring Installation Requirements

In general, Article 760 permits wiring methods for fire alarm systems that are less stringent than installations for normal light and power service The wiring methods for normal light and power service in an industrial or commercial building installation normally require that all conductors be installed in conduit or raceway, as well as meeting other requirements.. This is true even for non-power-limited circuits. Non-power-limited circuits may use the installation methods in NEC Chapter 3 All the fire alarm circuit conductors may be installed in conduit or raceway the same as any other power circuit in a building. While this method is permitted, it can be expensive. That is why there are alternative installation methods for non-power-limited fire alarm circuits., or the circuits may be installed using listed non-power-limited cables.
