NEC Requirements

Power-Limited

General FPLR Installation

Power-Limited Fire Alarm Riser (FPLR) cable is intended for use in a vertical shaft or for circuits that run from floor-to-floor. The cable has fire resistant characteristics capable of preventing the spread of fire from floor-to-floor. Type FPL cable is not tested for this characteristic.

Applications In addition to being used for fire alarm system risers that run from floor-to-floor, FPLR may be used in any applications where FPL is acceptable.

Misapplications Type FPLR may NOT be used exposed in plenums as defined by the NEC. The NEC defines a plenum as a "compartment or chamber to which one or more air ducts are connected and that forms part of the air distribution system."
