What is the NEC?

NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, also known as the NEC, covers the requirements for the installation of electrical wiring and equipment This includes the installation of electrical conductors and equipment within both public and private buildings. It also covers the installation of conductors and equipment that connect to the electrical supply, installation of conductors and equipment installed outside of buildings, and the installation of optical fiber cables and raceways.. The purpose of the NEC is to protect people and property from the hazards of electricity. NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm Code, requires that all wiring for fire alarm systems be installed in accordance with the requirements of the NEC.
