Definition

While a non-power-limited fire alarm circuit does have specific overcurrent protection, it is powered by a source that is not inherently limited in the amount of current that can be on the circuit, even under fault conditions. The power supply is one that complies with NEC Chapters 1 through 4 These chapters are applicable to all electrical equipment and wiring installations. They cover general requirements, wiring and protection, wiring methods and materials, and equipment for general use., and the output voltage is 600 volts This is a general limitation of the NEC. Most modern fire alarm systems use an output voltage of 24 volts or less. or less.
