A common mistake in providing fire alarm notification appliances is to provide a combination audible/visible appliance every place an appliance is needed. It is more cost effective and sometimes more practical, to determine the location of all the audible appliances and then determine the location of all the visible appliances. Where both an audible and visible appliance is needed in the same location a combination appliance can be used, but do not automatically provide a combination appliance in every location.
