Introduction to Fire Pumps
For example, a fire pump protecting a building with a small fire load, such as an office building or hospital, may be rated to deliver a flow of 500 gpm, whereas a plastics manufacturing facility using flammable liquids in the process may require a pump that has a capacity of at least 2,500 gpm. Either of these pumps is readily available from a number of pump manufacturers, as these are "typical" pump volume ratings.
