Introduction to Fire Pumps

Pump Components

Pump Houses and Rooms

There has to be a protected space for the pump. Because it is a piece of emergency equipment, the pump can't be exposed to a fire or other problems in adjacent areas.

Obviously, the pump has to be installed in the room or house in such a manner that it can't come loose from its mountings, or be allowed to "move" or vibrate excessively.

The room has to be properly lit, ventilated and heated.  It also has to be protected against entry from unauthorized people.

SpacingToo often, the pump room is the last space thought about in the building, and often ends up too small. This can cause piping problems, and will insure maintenance headaches in the future. around equipment has to be maintained to the extent necessary for all maintenance and operation of the pump.
