Power and Fuel

Depending on the type of driver selected, adequate power to an electric driver, or adequate fuel supplies are required. 

Electrically-driven pumps are supplied powerTypical electric fire pump installations require high-energy power supplies, with the capability to hurt or kill people who are not trained to be around high powered electrical equipment. Care and training in handling the electrical systems for these pumps is imperative. in very specific ways as outlined in NFPA 20.  These requirements are in place to guarantee a dependable electrical supply to the motor. 

Diesel engines are required to meet certain requirements in the fuel piping and supply to the engine, also as outlined in NFPA 20.  Obviously, fuel is critical to the operation of the diesel engine, and its adequacy must be guaranteed.

In the rare event that a steam turbine drive is provided, NFPA 20 contains specific requirements concerning the availability and adequacy of steam to the operator.
